Selling

Commissions

Post a request for proposal, compare artists’ proposals, award and accept a contract, then pay through a payment Yeja holds until you release it.

How A Commission Works

Commissions connects people who want a work made with artists who make it. A buyer posts a request for proposal (RFP), artists send proposals, the buyer awards one, both sides accept the contract, and the buyer pays. Yeja holds that payment until the buyer releases it to the artist.

Both sides work through an organization, which can be just you. You can create one the first time you post an RFP or send a proposal, and invite team members to it.

Requesting A Commission

  • Choose Create at the top of the page, then New RFP. If an artist offers it on their Atelier, you can also choose Create an RFP there.
  • Fill in the details: organization and project, title, description, category, the deadline for proposals and your target install date. Then add the site’s dimensions and requirements, attach reference files such as CAD files, blueprints or site photos, and set a budget range.
  • Choose who can see it: the public marketplace, where any artist can find it, or specific artists only. For an invite-only RFP, you invite artists by name or by email, and no one else can see it.
  • The RFP stays a draft, visible only to your organization, until you publish it. You can edit or delete a draft. Once published, it can’t be edited.

You can withdraw an open RFP to take it off the marketplace. A withdrawn RFP can’t be published again. To reuse one, duplicate it: this makes a new draft with the same details but without the deadlines.

Proposals And Contracts

Artists reply with a proposal: a cover note, a proposed budget and timeline, an optional maintenance and durability plan, and files. You can save a proposal as a draft, but files are attached only when you submit. Each organization sends one proposal per RFP, and only it and the organization that posted the RFP can see it. You can withdraw a proposal you’ve sent.

The buyer’s team can rate each proposal from 1 to 5 and keep notes. Awarding is final: the buyer confirms the final budget and timeline, every other proposal on the RFP is declined, and the RFP stops taking proposals.

When a proposal is awarded, Yeja creates a contract with the final budget and timeline. Each side then accepts it. Your acceptance is recorded with your account and the time, and can’t be undone. This is a timestamped acceptance, not a formal e-signature.

Paying And Releasing

Once both sides have accepted the contract, the buyer pays the final budget by card, and Yeja holds it while the artist works.

  • The artist’s organization must have connected Stripe before the buyer can pay. Set this up in the organization’s payment settings.
  • When the work is done, the buyer marks it complete and releases the payment. The full amount is released at once; there are no milestone payments. Releasing can’t be undone.
  • The artist receives the payment less Yeja’s fee: 20%, 12% if the owner of the artist’s organization has Pro, or 10% if they have Enterprise.

Disputes

If something goes wrong while Yeja is holding the payment, either side can report a problem and explain what went wrong in at least 20 characters. This freezes the payment: no one can release it until Yeja’s team resolves the dispute. The team can refund the buyer in full, refund part and pay the rest to the artist, release the payment to the artist, or record a note without moving money. A contract can have one open dispute at a time. Before the buyer pays, or once the payment has been released, there’s nothing to dispute through Yeja.

Common Questions

Can I pay in instalments?

No. The buyer pays the full agreed amount once, Yeja holds it, and it is released to the artist in one payment.

Can other artists see my proposal?

No. A proposal is visible only to your organization and the organization that posted the RFP.

Where can I track the proposals I’ve sent?

Look under RFP Submissions in your profile’s activity. Each proposal shows its current status.

Can I edit an RFP after publishing it?

No. A published RFP is locked so artists can rely on its terms. You can withdraw it, or duplicate it into a new draft and publish that.

Can I invite an artist who isn’t on Yeja?

Yes. Enter their email address when you invite artists, and Yeja emails them the invite.

Why can’t the buyer pay yet?

Both sides must accept the contract first, and the artist’s organization must have finished connecting Stripe.

Who decides a dispute?

Yeja’s team. While a dispute is open, the payment stays held and neither side can release it.

What does Yeja charge on a commission?

Yeja takes 20% of the contract amount, 12% if the owner of the artist’s organization has Pro, or 10% if they have Enterprise. It comes out of the payment when it’s released to the artist. See Pricing.
