Auctions

Bid with a maximum and let Yeja bid for you, get outbid and ending-soon notices, pay for a win, and start your own auction with a reserve, start and end.

Finding An Auction

Each auction is one piece with its own end time. Use the filters: Live for auctions open for bidding now, Upcoming for ones that haven’t opened yet, Sold for ones that ended with a winner, and Passed for ones that ended without meeting their reserve. Tap the heart on a card to add it to your watchlist.

Placing A Bid

  • Open a live listing to see the Current Bid, the number of bids and the time left.
  • Enter the most you’re willing to pay. It must be at least the minimum bid shown.
  • Tick the box confirming the bid is a binding offer to buy if you win, then choose Place Bid.

Yeja bids for you automatically, only as much as needed to keep you in the lead, up to your maximum. Bids can’t be withdrawn. If someone bids in the last two minutes, the end time moves to two minutes after that bid, so everyone has a chance to respond.

How Automatic Bidding Works

  • The amount you enter is your maximum, not what you pay now. The Current Bid only rises as far as needed to keep the leader ahead.
  • If another bidder already has a higher maximum, your bid still counts, but they stay in the lead and the Current Bid moves up to just above your bid.
  • If two bidders enter the same maximum, the one who bid first stays in the lead.
  • While you’re the highest bidder, you can’t bid again on that auction. If someone outbids you, you can bid again with a higher maximum.
  • You can place up to 10 bids a minute across all auctions.

Bidders Stay Anonymous

Auctions never shows who is bidding or who is winning. You see only whether you are the highest bidder or the winner. Your own bids are listed under Bidding History in your profile’s activity, marked Highest Bidder, Outbid, Won or Ended.

Notices, Ending And Paying

While Auctions is open, you’ll see a notice when someone outbids you, and when a listing you’re watching or winning enters its last 15 minutes.

Yeja checks every five minutes for auctions whose start or end time has passed. An upcoming auction opens for bidding at the first check after its start time. When a live auction’s end time passes, the next check closes it:

  • If the highest bid meets the reserve, or there is no reserve, the auction shows as Sold and the highest bidder wins.
  • If there are no bids, or the highest bid is below the reserve, it shows as Passed and no one is charged.
  • The winner gets a notice that they won, and a second one saying payment is due.

Paying For A Win

  • You pay your winning bid plus a buyer’s premium of 20%. The premium is shown under the bid box before you bid.
  • To pay, choose Pay Now on the banner at the top of Auctions, on the listing, or from the payment-due notice, then enter your card. Stripe emails a receipt to the email on your profile.

Starting An Auction

  • Choose Create at the top of the page, then Start An Auction. You can also choose Start An Auction on a piece’s Sale tab in My Studio.
  • Choose Choose From My Studio to fill in the title, description and image from a piece you’ve uploaded, or type them in yourself.
  • Pick a currency (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD or AUD) and set a Starting Bid. You can also set a reserve price: if bidding doesn’t reach it, the piece doesn’t sell.
  • Set Starts At, at least 12 hours from now, and pick an end date one to four weeks after the start.
  • Tick Make Live Immediately to open bidding right away. Otherwise the auction is listed under Upcoming and opens at its start time. Then choose Create Auction.

A piece can be in only one upcoming or live auction at a time. While your auction is live, you can choose End Listing Now to close bidding early. The reserve still applies: if it was met, the highest bidder wins and is asked to pay.

When your piece sells, you receive the full winning bid. The buyer’s premium is paid by the buyer and goes to Yeja. See Pricing.

Common Questions

Can I cancel a bid?

No. Bids are binding and can’t be withdrawn once placed, so only bid what you’re prepared to pay.

Why did the end time change?

A bid came in during the last two minutes. The end time moves to two minutes after each late bid, so no one wins by bidding at the last second.

What happens if bidding doesn’t reach the reserve?

The piece doesn’t sell. When the auction closes, it shows as Passed and no one is charged.

Can other bidders see who I am?

No. Auctions never shows who is bidding or winning. Each person sees only whether they are the highest bidder.

Can I raise my maximum while I’m winning?

Not while you’re the highest bidder. If someone outbids you, you can bid again with a higher maximum.

When does an upcoming auction open?

At its start time. Yeja checks every five minutes, so bidding can open a few minutes after the time shown.

I won. How do I pay?

Choose Pay Now on the banner at the top of Auctions, on the listing, or from the payment-due notice, and enter your card. The total is your winning bid plus the buyer’s premium.

Can the same piece be in two auctions?

No. A piece can be in only one upcoming or live auction at a time.

What does Yeja charge on auctions?

The buyer pays a buyer’s premium of 20% on top of the winning bid. The seller receives the full winning bid. See Pricing.
